There are fewer choices in 60” ceiling fans in India. This may be due to the lack of knowledge among the consumers and shops, to the need to appropriately size the fan and reap its advantages. Typically, the 48” (1200 mm) ceiling fan irrespective of its fit to the space and suffers a lack in comfort, energy and cost efficiency.

In a 60” inch ceiling fan, 60” refers to the diameter of the fan including the motor. The size is technically referred to as the span, this is indicated in inches or mm. By fan laws, the wider blades require less RPM to deliver the same airflow as a shorter blade. Hence a 60” fan can deliver the same airflow as a smaller fan at lower RPM, this lower RPM results in quietness. These fans are usually designed to deliver more airflow than the smaller fans so at top speed they can move more air around if the user requires it. In energy efficient motor technology like Brushless DC motor, the lower RPM increases the energy efficiency. Even though the larger sizes have these benefits, installing a larger fan in a small space may hinder the flow and affect its operation, so it is vital to size the fan according to the need.
